Flinders Ranges draws on the vast, mineral-rich terrain of South Australia’s ancient mountain landscape. Rather than rendering a literal view, Stewart interprets the memory of place through layered material and tonal depth.
Burnished ochres, iron-rich earth tones and deep plum hues move across the surface echoing rock faces, shadowed crevices and expansive bush land. Areas of density are balanced by softer transitions, allowing the landscape to feel both expansive and intimate.
Built through successive layers and intuitive mark-making, the work holds a physical presence. Subtle gestures and embedded textures reveal themselves gradually, rewarding close viewing while maintaining strength from a distance.
